As a proto-movie-maker, I thought I'd post my own essential list of movies... It seems like everyone else thinks they should... so these are the movies that have and will continue to inspire me and make me smile. They wont be in any particular order... I'm gonna aim for alphabetical though and while I think they are must sees and essential to Life, the Universe, and Everything.... you may not... so feel free to write your own list! Also, while these may not be your favorite movies, they are mine and I think anyone should see as many of them as they can if for no other reason than to learn about how my mind works! Also... they are just good movies!

10 Things I Hate About You - A modern retelling of a Shakespear classic that really made me feel as if I actually experienced high school!
300 - A greased up Scotsman leading a band of greeks to fight against the Persian armies... it's so ridiculously overdone that it's gory greatness!
-A-
A Knight's Tale - If you're into medieval times blended with the younger styles of today (or rather the 90's), this is definately a great one!
A Night At The Roxbury - The greastest SNL skit movie to come out of the 90's and beyond!
Aladdin - Classic old school Disney with a Robin Williams twist!
Austin Powers 1-3 - I like all of them, but so far they keep getting better!
-B-
Back to the Future 1-3 - Are you thinking fourth dimensionally enough? I know I am!
Blades of Glory - Quite possibly Will Ferrell's best movie... and Napolean actually is funny!
Billy Madison - Adam Sandler halucinates about a giant penguin... what about this story wouldn't work?
The Bourne Series - One of the all time greatest espionage thrillers.
Bruce Almighty - Jim Carrey takes over for God! Hilariously blasphemous with a good message and lot's of heart!
-C-
Casablanca - I finallu watched this a few months ago and it is really good!
Cool Runnings - A Jamacain bobsled team? No way!
Clue - Ohhh, Tim Curry... and one of America's favorite board games!
-D-
Dark Knight - It was pretty good but Heath Ledger's performance really kicks it up a notch!
Die Hard 1-4 - Yippie-ki-ya! The bestest in action films!
Down Periscope - Better than a Swiss.... car....
Dodgeball - One word... well three words... Steve the Pirate!
Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog - It's gonna be the new Rocky Horror, just you wait and see!
-E-
-F-
Futurama: The Movies and the Show - Futurama is so much fun! It's like sex but I'm having it!
-G-
Galaxy Quest - I think you've gotta be a Star Trek fan to really appreciate this one... but it's still hilarious all the same!
Ghostbusters 1-2 - Who ya gonna call?
Groundhog Day - This day only comes once a year... usually!
-H-
Hairspray - I've heard great things about the original but have yet to see it... but the musical is funny as all get out... Christopher Walken, John Travolta in a fat-suit, and Amanda Bynes... she's a bit of all right.
Hamlet 2 - This is really funny, but only in a very outlandish and weird sorta way.
Happy Gilmore - This is the movie that first introduced me to Adam Sandler and that's a good thing... plus, Bob Barker.
Hudson Hawk - Bruce Willis's foray into comedy was not very successful, but his singing cat-buglar antics are hilarious to me!
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - The books are so fun to read and the movie continues in much the same vein telling the story of one man's (several men's) quest to find the meaning of Life, The Universe, and Everything... and then, what the heck happened to Earth anyway? Make sure you bring your towl!
Hot Fuzz - Big justice brought to a small town. Simon Pegg... Nick Frost... and Timothy Dalton? Who knew it could be so funny?
-I-
I Love You, Man - The greatest Bromantic comedy ever!
Independance Day - The only thing better than watching Will Smith kill aliens... no wait...
Indiana Jones 1-4 - I of course love Raiders and Last Crusade the best, but they all have their charm... and Crystal Skull... well... it's...
Iron Man 1 and 2- Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau team to make possibly the greatest superhero pic ever! And the great part is that just about everyone in this movie is awesome!
-J-
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back - A Jay and Silent Bob movie? Who would pay to see something like that?
Jumanji - Oh so great be Robin Williams!
Jurassic Park 1-3 - When Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don't eat the tourists... well, they might... but regardless I always like dinosaurs!
-K-
-L-
Legally Blonde - Okay, putting aside the fact that Reese Witherspoon is like gorgeous... this is a funny and sweet movie... plus Reese Witherspoon is hot!
Lethal Weapon 1-4 - You're never too old for this!
The Lord of the Rings - Aside from The Hobbit, I couldn't get through the books. While fantasy isn't my top choice, these films are really well done and worth the tireless hours of them trudging through the jungle.
-M-
Mission: Impossible - Great espionage thriller!
Mission: Impossible III - J.J. Abrams brings the Mission: Impossible franchise back in style!
Muppet Treasure Island - Best. Muppet. Movie. Ever!
-N-
The Negotiator - Samuel L. proving his innocence the only way he can! Locking himself in a building and demanding to talk to Kevin Spacey.
-O-
-P-
Pink Panther 1 - 2 - I speak of the new Steve Martin ones... they are so stupid you can't help but chuckle... plus, Jean Reno!
Pirates of the Caribbean 1-3 - I've always liked swordplay... be it on wheels, boats or the occasional wild sea monster. Hey, why's all the rum gone?
The Princess Bride - Wesley and Buttercup, Columbo and Fred Savage? It would be inconceivable if you didn't see it! Anybody want a peanut?
The Producers - I hear that the original movie is pretty great also, but the musical tends to have me laughing and dancing.
-Q-
-R-
Rat Race - The cast is great, the situations are hilarious... and Jon Lovits as Hitler?
Robin Hood: Men in Tights - It's just so great! See it now! Unless you're blind, then get the braile version...
Rock'n'Rolla - See Snatch but with Gerard Butler
Rush Hour 1 - 3 - Great buddy cop films... unfortunately it isn't so great as it goes further but it is still worth the watch!
-S-

Scrooged - One of my favorite holiday films, a classic tale with a twist!
Serinity - Joss Whedon's space epic... it currently wins the honor of my favorite movie!
Shanghai Noon/Knights - It's basically Rush hous with Owen Wilson set in the Old West/Turn of the century(1800-1900) London... but they're both great!
Sherlock Holmes - Robert Downey and Jude Law turn in great performances... the rest isn't too bad either.
Snatch - It's one crazy day... or rather several... but it's an awesome ride of irony. I think it was my very first time watching a film with Jason Stathom!
Spaceballs - One of the Mel Brook's classics that pokes fun of sci-fi... it's hilarious. With talent like John Candy, Rick Morranis and Mel Brook's as well as many many others, how could it not be?

Star Trek: Generations - The melding of original Trek and Next Generation Trek... and Data's cat!
Star Trek: First Contact - Hands down the best Star Trek movie to feature The Next Generation crew. Yeah, they go back in time... but it's still the future!
-T-
The Three Musketeers - The one with Charlie Sheen, Oliver Platt, Kiefer Sutherland, Tim Curry... and yes... :::sigh::: Chris O'Donnel... but it's fun!
Tropic Thunder - Robert Downey Jr. really shows his acting chops as the dude playin' the dude disguised as another dude!
-U-
-V-
-W-
Wedding Crashers - Owen Wilson and Vince Vaugn in a wedding crashing bromace? Plus, Chris Walken? It's awesome!
-X-
-Y-
Yes Man - Jim Carrey.... Zooey Deschanel... and Terrance Stamp in the action picture of the decade... okay, not so much but it's great fun to watch!
-Z-
Zero Effect - A private eye who is working on a guide to sleuthing...
Zoolander - How many abodiginals do you know? Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson make for comedy gold!
I was thinking of doing a list of books like this but... it would just have a bunch of Star Wars and Michael Crichton novels... oh, and all of the Harry Potter books! Gotta have those... but the only "classic" I've read is The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde... oh, and The Hobbit. I also memorized Jabberwocky, does that count? Maybe as much as the Hobbit does...
